The greatest strength in our practice is that we know our clients and our clients know us. We never take this fact for granted, and recognize that it is rare gift in the modern practice of law.
We believe in helping our clients by embracing the technological moment and accepting change as a constant. Until the last decade, the practice of law involved a simple equation: the size of the problem was equal to the number of individuals needed to solve the problem. This was particularly true in litigation, where large law firms held the advantage of being able to apply massive numbers of professionals and paraprofessionals to the administrative tasks of legal research, document review, and administrative processing. All of that has changed with the advance of computers, scanners, and software.
Our practice was an early adopter of the "paperless office" in the late 2000's. This allowed us to integrate software to simplify and accelerate traditionally time-consuming tasks. At the beginning of 2023, we integrated Artificial Intelligence into our paperless practice. This now affords us expanded capabilities with document processing and summarization. We have also added Westlaw's Casetext to our workflows, which provides not only advance research capabilities, but also additional speed with document automation. In our opinion, AI technology is not yet the equivalent of human work, but it provides an important prosthetic to our legal practice and dramatically expands our capabilities and capacity.
Advances in software and AI have reduced the number of employees needed to operate an efficient small law practice. In 2014, our law practice employed about 14-16 employees and 3-4 attorneys. Today our practice consists of 2 full-time attorneys and approximately 5-7 support staff. This has led us to rethink the role of administrative staff and the backgrounds of our employees. We now recruit and hire individuals with diverse educational and personal backgrounds. For instance, Jadira has recently completed her education with a Master's Degree in Human Rights. Jen, originally from Venezuela, was a practicing dentist and oral surgeon prior to immigrating to the United States. Maureen is an accomplished writer and writing instructor. Nidia has extensive experience in Immigration and grew up running the books for a small family business. Issa has two MBA's and is currently sitting for his CPA exam. This type of diverse knowledge and expertise provides us with a critical and winning edge.
